4,000 steps - 700 metres in height - max. gradient 86 % - the longest straight stairway in Europe.
At the foot of the Partenen over 4,000 steps of the former inclined lift route, along the historic pressure pipe line of Vermunt up to the mountain station of the Vermuntbahn in Trominier. One can travel comfortably back down into the valley using the Vermuntbahn. 4,000 steps (as a comparison: Ulm Casthedral 768 steps), 700m height difference and a maximum increase of up to 86%: a challenge for professional and hobby athletes. As well as the Austrian national women’s skiing team, many football teams and marathon runners also incorporate the Europatreppe 4000 into their training schedule. Time recorders are installed at the start and at the end. With one’s own best time one has the option of acquiring certificates and Badges. The owners of the steps are as unique as the steps themselves. Because the steps of the Europatreppe can be bought and are also given as gifts on special occasions by the Gaschurn-Partenen local authority. A small brass plaque at the foot of the stairway indicates the respective owner of the step. The income from the sale of the steps is used to maintain the Europatreppe 4000.
