The Montafon table
A Montafon gem
Even today, the Montafoner tables with their ornate wooden decorations and elegant slate tops are mainly handmade.

"Every Montafoner table is unique"
Master carpenter Markus Juen
The Montafon table has been made in the Montafon for over 300 years. Thanks to carpenters like Markus Juen from St. Gallenkirch, this cultural asset has been preserved.
A Montafon table is more than just a piece of furniture - it is an heirloom. Made from local woods such as pear, cherry or oak, it is handcrafted with precision. Its traditional slate top makes it unmistakable.
"In Montafon, the table is passed down from generation to generation," says Markus Juen.
Artful inlays
The Juen family has been carrying on the craft of cabinetmaking for generations.
Markus Juen learned it from his father Raimund and now runs the joinery. The intricate inlay work is the heart of a Montafoner table. Every detail has to fit exactly - otherwise the work starts all over again. Around two and a half weeks of manual work make each table unique.
Once a wedding gift, the Montafoner table was the centerpiece of the house. Today it is experiencing a renaissance - and Markus is passionate about preserving this special craft.
