Unique Alpine diversity united by four adventure areas

Overview and guide for your hiking vacation in places worth seeing and enchanting mountains

Come with us on a little journey through the Alpine mosaic of Montafon!

The Montafon combines the natural diversity of large parts of Europe in a very small area. Three mountain ranges meet here - the Verwall, the Silvretta and the Rätikon - whose geological history stretches back up to two billion years. This unique Alpine diversity is reflected in the flora, fauna and cultural landscape. In order to bring this diversity to life, the focus is on four experience areas that make the special features of the region tangible.

What type of "Alpine mosaic" are you?

If you answer the questions in the affirmative, you will be taken to the corresponding hiking area!

Do you prefer walking to hiking or climbing high peaks?

Would you like to immerse yourself in the lush abundance of nature while hiking?

Do you like it quiet and a bit secluded?

Do you like to experience glaciers and the freedom above the peaks?

The mystical Verwall

An untouched natural jewel and a primeval landscape with lakes, moors and vast fields.

The most diverse habitats are interwoven in this European nature reserve. That's why a hike in the Verwall is a world tour to places, plants and animals never seen before - in complete seclusion and silence.

Spend a fabulous time in the Silbertal!

For generations, locals have been telling each other mysterious stories that are closely linked to the history of the Silbertal.

The legend trail leads from the Kristbergbahn mountain station through shady forests and past ten historical locations down into the Silbertal valley. The Wildried, one of the highest raised bogs in the Alps, is particularly impressive. On the Kristbergsattel you will also find out why the pope's key adorns the Montafon coat of arms.

The high alpine Silvretta

Unpredictable and fascinating.

This adventure area belongs only to itself and challenges adventurers and those who like to push their limits with rocks, ice and snow. With its three-thousand-metre peaks and famous glaciers such as the Ochsental glacier below Piz Buins, the dominant high mountain range on the border with Switzerland and Tyrol looks like an impressive film set.

Spectacular journey to the Silvretta

From Partenen (1,051 m), the Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße winds its way up to the 2,032 m high Silvretta-Bielerhöhe in 34 hairpin bends. Once at the top, a breathtaking view of the peaks of the Silvretta opens up - above all the majestic Piz Buin (3,312 m).

The panoramic tour around the Hohe Rad (2,934 m) leads through alpine meadows, past imposing glaciers and ancient moraines. With a bit of luck, you might spot marmots, ibex or chamois. A special highlight: the idyllic Radsee lake, perfect for a refreshing break.

The picturesque Rätikon

A cornucopia of creation.

White stone giants in front of flowering meadows and grazing Montafon brown cattle, fresh mountain springs and the turquoise waters of Lake Lünersee. Dive in and recharge your batteries - this habitat is perfect for that. With a bit of luck, chamois will peer down from the peaks and marmots will whistle.

This place is an exceptionally beautiful example of the valley's alpine and Maisäß culture!

The "Gauertaler AlpkulTour" theme trail leads through the impressive alpine and Maisäß landscape in the Rätikon. Along the way, sculptures by artist Roland Haas tell the story of three-tier farming in the Montafon.

The Three Towers tower majestically above the hikers and always offer new, fascinating perspectives. A trail that combines nature, culture and art!

The living valley

Steeped in history - from front to back.

In addition to the three mountain ranges, the valley as an experience area plays an important role. With its centerpiece, the Ill lifeline, it combines all the geological characteristics of the surrounding mountains, which flow together in the 39 km long valley.
