Environmentally friendly mountain sports in summer
While the initiative ‘Nature-friendly mountain sports in Montafon’ originated in winter, the focus has now been expanded to include all mountain sports.
The current focus for the summer season is on (e-)mountain biking. ‘Here, too, we will be placing greater emphasis on steering measures, but only in areas where they are necessary and appropriate. The aim is not to create new paths, but to make sensible use of existing ones and to protect sensitive areas.’ (Manuel Bitschnau)

Steering measures
For environmentally friendly (e-)mountain biking in Montafon.
(E-)Mountain biking in the unique mountain world of Montafon is a special experience. To ensure that this experience remains sustainable and environmentally friendly, a well-thought-out management concept has been put in place. Official signage, targeted awareness-raising measures and practical solutions such as the Flow Gate ensure that everyone – recreational sports enthusiasts, wild and farm animals, and farmers – feels equally comfortable.
Basis: Official mountain bike signage

The official signposting of the province of Vorarlberg forms the basis for the mountain bike routes in the Montafon. It includes clear destination signs and red arrows pointing the way. This means you are always on the marked routes - an important contribution to harmonious coexistence on the trails.
Starting point boards: orientation at a glance
Starting point signs have been erected at individual central starting points. They show the official routes in the area, including recommended tour suggestions that are directly linked to Outdooractive. Here you will also find the Mountain Bike Code of Conduct, which points to respectful cooperation, as well as information on the mountain bike infrastructure in the region.
Awareness boards: Mindful on the trail
Flow Gate: Barrier-free and safe through pasture fences

Another innovative element is the flow gate - a special fence passageway that allows you to ride through on your mountain bike without dismounting. The gate closes automatically so that no pasture fences are left open and agricultural use is not impaired. For hikers, there is a handle with which the gate can be opened without touching the electric pasture fencing.
Bike & Hike parking spaces

From the saddle to the hiking trail
Some mountain bike trails end at points from which the mountain world can be explored further on foot. This is exactly where Bike & Hike parking spaces have been created. The wooden mountain bike stands offer a safe place to park your bike, while an information board suggests hikes from this location. So you can move seamlessly from one activity to the next.
Mountain bike bans
Driving in the following areas is prohibited during the specified periods. Regular checks will be carried out during this time.
- Hinteres Silbertal (Verwall European Nature Reserve) from the Fellimännle alpine hut to the Silbertaler Winterjöchle from 16 September to 14 June.
- Verwall European Nature Reserve entire area from 16 October to 14 June.
- Tschagguns - Tilisuna (Gampadelstal), driving on the Tilisuna farm road is prohibited from 16 September to 15 October.
Time restrictions
Please refrain from driving during the aforementioned period.
Bartholomäberg
Due to the urgent need to hunt red deer, please do not enter the Bartholomäberg area from Rellseck, Fritzensee and Fulateia between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. from 10 October (in autumn)!
Gaschurn - Silvretta-Bielerhöhe, Silvrettasee
Driving along the shore of Lake Silvretta is only permitted on the eastern shore (driving is also prohibited on the dam road – the road runs below the dam) up to the entrance to Klostertal. There is a time restriction from 10:00 to 15:00 (recommended) for driving from Silvretta-Bielerhöhe to Wiesbadener Hütte / Klostertaler Umwelthütte. Driving is not recommended during this time as there are too many pedestrians on the Silvretta Lake circular trail. Hikers always have right of way.

Flying drones in the Montafon
Drones are popular in the leisure sector - even in the mountains. But there are limits to the fun of flying: They can frighten wild animals, endanger grazing animals and disturb the nature experience of others. We therefore ask you to refrain from flying drones, especially in the sensitive Alpine region.
