Tourbeschreibung

Silvretta Park Montafon (valisera railway valley station) - rifabecken - partenen - ganifer - kopssee - wirl/galtür - paznauntal - silvretta-bielerhöhe - silvretta high alpine road - partenen - silvretta park montafon (valisera railway valley station)

Description

Important note: Due to landslides and new geological findings, the Silvretta High Alpine Road cannot open in the 2025 season. It is therefore also closed for bikes. The indicated route is possible up to the Vermunt reservoir, but then you must turn back. Unfortunately, bikes cannot be taken on the Vermuntbahn.

From the Silvretta Park (Valisera railway valley station) the route gently climbs to Partenen. After the toll station, you ride on an asphalt road through the romantically wild Ganifer valley (no car traffic) to Kopssee. This section also includes steep passages. At Kopssee, the reservoir with its curved dam demonstrates an impressive connection between nature and technology. At Zeinisjoch height you cross the state border, and a rapid descent on the left side of the Zeinisbach begins into Paznauntal in the neighboring state of Tyrol. From Wirl/Galtür the route leads up the Silvretta High Alpine Road to Silvretta Lake at over 2,000 m. Afterward, the descent begins via the toll road with 32 hairpin bends back to Partenen.

Approach

Take the A14 to the Bludenz/Montafon exit and continue on Montafonerstraße L188 to the Silvretta Park junction, then turn right – the parking lot is visible after one minute of driving.

Directions

The route starts at the parking lot of the Valisera railway valley station in St. Gallenkirch and leads along Montafonerstraße valley inward past Rifabecken to Partenen. At the second hairpin bend after the toll station, you turn left and follow the road uphill over Ganifer to Kopssee. The climb is steep and goes up in serpentine bends. The Kops reservoir with its curved dam demonstrates an impressive connection between nature and technology. Via Zeinisstraße it goes down towards Wirl/Galtür. Then follows another climb via the Paznauntal and Tyrolean ground up to Silvretta Lake at Silvretta-Bielerhöhe at 2,032 m. An impressive panorama with views of the mountain world rewards you for your efforts and exertions. A rapid descent on the Silvretta High Alpine Road with its 32 hairpin bends begins. You pass Vermuntsee and shortly afterward reach the toll station again in Partenen. Via Montafonerstraße and Rifabecken you return to the starting point.

Note: Those who take the bus from St. Gallenkirch to Silvretta save about 23 kilometers and 1,056 meters of ascent.
